Authorities were called out to the scene around 3am.
Officials said the tow truck was towing another vehicle when it was involved in a collision with a car.
Investigators closed the westbound lanes of the freeway as they tried to figure out what happened. The roadway was open within a few hours.
There is no word on any injuries or who's at fault for the crash. It remains under investigation.
