Fog delays dozens of ships at Houston Ship Channel

HOUSTON

U.S. Coast Guard official Zack Edwards told the Houston Chronicle on Thursday there are 51 ships waiting to enter the port and some seven in line to exit.

Edwards says in Galveston there are nine ships waiting to enter the area, and three waiting to exit. In Port Arthur, about a dozen ships are waiting to sail in, and a half-dozen need to depart.

The Port of Houston and others that line the Houston Ship Channel are some of the busiest in the nation. Poor visibility due to fog has plagued the area for two days.
