Space Center Houston getting space shuttle orbiter model this spring

HOUSTON

Johnson Space Center may have lost out on becoming home to one of the retired shuttles, but Space Center Houston is getting a new addition this spring. A full size scale replica of a space orbiter will soon be on its way to us from Kennedy Space Center.

The orbiter will open to the public next fall. The orbiter was built to precise specifications back in 1993 and cost $2 million.

Visitors will have full access to the flight deck and cargo hold. Once it arrives, Texans will even get the chance to name the state's very own shuttle replica.

The actual retired shuttles were awarded to museums in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Cape Canaveral, and New York.
