It happened at around 9:30 Sunday night at the complex in the 4200 block of Barberry near Ferdinand. Homicide investigators say the man was beaten during a fight. The victim, Patrone Brooks, 37, suffered blunt force trauma and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
One person witnessed the altercation and is being interviewed. The killer or killers ran off.
Investigators also say someone's vehicle was shot up at the apartment complex at around the same time, but they aren't sure if it's related to the deadly beating.
