Houston port worker killed at container terminal

HOUSTON

Allan Chase was walking at Barbours Cut Container Terminal around 8:30pm Tuesday when he was killed by a 250,000-ton rubber tire gantry crane.

Joe Trevino, vice president of the International Longshoremen Association, told The Bay Area Citizen that the container crane moves from side to side and probably caught Chase from behind.

"He was cut in half," Trevino said.

Chase worked at the port for 45 years. He was an ILA member.

A memorial for Chase is scheduled for 2pm Sunday at Pasadena Funeral Chapel, 2203 Pasadena Blvd.
