Thousands of Catholic faithful filled downtown Houston on Sunday for a procession to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The procession featured mariachis and indigenous folk dancers in traditional costumes.

The celebration honors the story of the appearance of the Virgin Mary to a peasant near Mexico City in 1531. The sighting inspired millions of Mexicans to convert to Catholicism.
