According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, two people were struck in the 11000 block of Beaumont Highway at John Ralston around 7pm.
One of the victims died at the scene, officials said. The other was rushed to an area hospital.
Authorities said both victims are adult males.
Information was still coming in late Saturday, but officials said the first accident was involving a Latino man in his 20s. He was allegedly struck by a white Ford pickup truck. The driver claimed he didn't see the victim.
The second crash happened moments later after a nearby business owner and two wrecker drivers rushed to help the injured victim.
Investigators say a woman in another pickup tried to swerve around the group. They said she drove over the injured man's body and then crashed into one of the Good Samaritans before speeding from the scene.
The first victim died at the scene. The Good Samaritan was taken via ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the second vehicle never stopped, officials said. She continued driving west on Beaumont Hwy. until the wrecker drivers were able to apprehend her about a mile away.
Beaumont Hwy. near the accident was blocked for several hours while authorities investigated.
It is unclear if alcohol played a role in the second accident. Deputies said the driver is facing charges for failure to stop and render aid.
No names have been released.
