Paloma Clarissa Martinez, 25, is charged with injury to a child. According to court documents, Martinez's 8-year-old daughter was transported to the hospital on August 8 and said she had been struck by her mother with a belt numerous times and with a shoe. The girl had bruises on her arm, shoulder and legs.
The girl told police her mom hit her because she threw away an empty can of mayonnaise. She said her brother tried to stop it and that he was also struck.
Police say they interviewed Martinez and she told them she "lost it" with her daughter and that she has been frustrated and that things had been difficult. According to police, Martinez told them the beating she gave her daughter was excessive.
Bond has been set at $5,000.
