Fatal hit-and-run wreck shuts down Highway 290

HOUSTON

It happened just west of Fairbanks-North Houston. According to investigators, a man in dark-colored clothing had just purchased a video at a High Times store near there and was attempting to cross the freeway.

That's when police say he was struck by a silver vehicle. The driver of that vehicle did not stay at the scene. Police say he was struck by several additional vehicles that stopped at the scene.

The eastbound lanes were shut down so the Houston Fire Department could hose down the freeway.

The medical examiner came out and removed the body, which was lying on the median. Police have not released the identity of the victim, a man in his 30s.

Police are looking for that silver vehicle, which they say should have significant front end damage. The clerk at the High Times store told investigators the victim appeared to be intoxicated.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
