Pasadena police spokesperson Vance Mitchell says undercover officers had been watching a couple of suspects in a Kroger parking lot on Spencer at Burke in Pasadena, when one of the suspects apparently spotted police and took off. Officers pursued the suspects in a brief chase that lasted about 10 minutes and ended when the suspects crashed the silver car they had been driving.
Both men ran off, but one was taken into custody almost immediately. The second man was captured about half an hour later.
Police say the men were suspected in a series of crimes at stores in the area, either burglarizing vehicles or robbing shoppers in the parking lots as they left the stores. There's no word on what charges they may face.
According to Pasadena ISD, De Zavala Middle School, Kruse Elementary, Gardens Elementary, Pasadena High School and Pasadena Intermediate were all put on lockdown when the pursuit moved into the vicinity of the schools. The lockdown was only a precaution and was lifted at about 1:45pm.
