The incident happened around 2:30pm in the front yard of a home in the 200 block of Burbank at Bauman.
Police say a 13-year-old may have accidentally fired the gun, hitting a 15-year-old in the face. The boy was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he is undergoing surgery. His condition is unknown.
They say four teens -- two siblings and two friends -- were present when the shooting occurred. They all attend an HISD school that had early dismissal Wednesday.
Police still don't know the 13-year-old's relation to the injured teen.
Detectives are still trying to determine how the teens got a hold of the pistol and to whom it belongs.
"I think it's not normal, kids playing with guns because cars and kids with their bikes passing around and they can get shot and that's not normal," 11-year-old neighbor Zuelma Soberon said.
