The student is to be sent to the District Alternative Education Program following the results of the investigation. The student's identity is not being released.
"We want to re-iterate, we do not tolerate students bringing anything that can severely harm another student or staff member to school -- even if it wasn't the intention of the student to do so," said Early Childhood University/Weis Middle School Principal Beatriz Rodriguez. "Anything construed to be a weapon, fake or otherwise, will result in automatic suspension from the school and a high chance of placement at DAEP. Parents should monitor what goes into the backpacks of their children before school and students should report anything suspicious to their bus driver, teacher, or administrator."
Fellow Weis students reported having seen the pellet gun on the morning school bus as soon as they arrived to the school at 7100 Stewart Road just before 7:30am. A quick check of the student's backpack by school administration revealed the pellet gun. The student was then placed on immediate suspension following an investigation headed by Galveston ISD Police.
Teachers at Early Childhood University and Weis will review the policies and procedures concerning the transportation of weapons, real or fake, to school with students throughout the day. Administration and teachers will also remind students throughout all other GISD schools of the no-tolerance policy.
