The shooting took place at a home in the 10400 block of Cude Cemetery Road. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, at about 3:30am a homeowner woke up when the burglar alarm went off. The homeowner discovered that the garage door was slightly open.
Officials say the homeowner found nothing else suspicious other than the door leading from the garage into the home was ajar. The door was secured, the alarm was reset and everyone went back to bed.
About an hour and a half later, the family was awakened again with what they described to be a loud boom. It was then that the family discovered that the seven-year-old boy had been shot and the front door of the residence had been kicked in.
The boy was taken by ambulance to Herman Memorial Hospital in The Woodlands. He was later flown to Texas Children's Hospital via Life Flight Helicopter, where he is reportedly in stable condition and being treated for an apparent gunshot wound to the leg.
A 13-year-old boy, who had been asleep in the living room, told deputies he thought he saw someone dressed in black run from the home, leading investigators to believe this was an apparent home invasion.
The investigation is ongoing at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident may contact Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867) or Detective John Schmitt at 936-760-5876.
