Man returns home to find roommate missing, dog shot

HOUSTON

Houston police say at around 3am Thursday a man came home to his residence in the 10800 block of Chimney Rock to find the front door open and a lot of blood on the walkway. There was also a spent shell casing from a semi-automatic pistol.

The man went inside and found that his 80-lb dog had been shot to death. According to police, the dog was shot near the front door and ran inside the house, leaving behind a trail of blood.

His roommate was nowhere to be found and he could not reach him by phone.

Authorities say neighbors heard a gunshot and several people called 911 to report it. The house was not ransacked and there was no sign of forced entry, but police say they did find some drugs.

"We treated it as a crime scene, as a possible kidnapping. During the search of the home, a significant amount of marijuana was found inside along with some other pills. So far we have not been able to find the other roommate," said Det. C. Abbey with HPD.

He said helicopters were brought out to search the bayous and backyards in the area.

"We don't know if he's been kidnapped, if he was injured, if he was murdered; we're not really sure what we have," Det. Abbey said. "We can't be sure if this was an attempted robbery, a retaliation or a murder."

Police have questioned the roommate.

The missing man is described as a white male in his 40s named Claudio, about 5 foot 10, with wavy brown hair, a goatee and a tatoo of the sun on his back. Police say they don't have a last name for the man.
