It happened around 1am Sunday on the East Freeway at Market.
According to police, the driver of a sports utility vehicle was traveling east on the feeder road of the East Freeway when he lost control for and left the roadway.
Investigators said he smashed into a clothing donation bin and the SUV flipped.
The driver was ejected. He was transported to an area hospital with severe injuries. At last check, he was in serious but stable condition.
Police believe alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the accident. A blood test will determine the driver's state and charges could follow.
No other injuries were reported in the crash.
