Harris County prosecutors say Bellaire lawyer Jeffrey Stern had an affair with a woman named Michelle Gaiser. They allege the pair ordered a hit on his wife, Yvonne.
Prosecutors say there were three attempts on Yvonne Stern's life. One hitman has already been convicted.
A second alleged hitman -- 27-year-old Damian Flores -- is set to go to trial Monday.
Flores is charged with attempted capital murder and is accused of shooting Yvonne Stern in the third attempt on her life.
Prosecutors say Flores walked up to Yvonne Stern outside her apartment and shot her in the stomach last year. The state says there had been two other murder attempts before that.
Nhut Nguyen was sentenced to 45 years in prison back in August for shooting at the mother of two through her home.
Yvonne Stern, who had filed for divorce, has since reconciled with her husband, joining him for court appearances. He and Gaiser are still awaiting trial.
