The accident happened at 1:50pm on Wayside at Avenue R. Houston police told us the officer was escorting an 18-wheeler that was hauling a large load. He was holding back traffic at the intersection when the big rig hit a large wire that was hanging too low. The wire then hit the officer.
The officer was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. He is conscious, breathing, and alert and the injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
