Missing college student appears to have vanished without a trace

TJ Murray hasn't been heard from since early on October 19. He was seen last at a sports bar. Since that time, there's not a trace of him. His father says it's as if he vanished.

In the eight days since TJ was last seen, his father has struggled to maintain a singular focus.

Thomas Murray, Sr., said, "Scared, sad... We just want our boy back."

We found Thomas Murray on Thursday with search crews, hoping to find something near Spring Creek underneath the North Freeway. They've found nothing.

Sgt. Melvin Franklin with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said, "Nothing of significance at this point. We have nothing even at this point to direct us to believe that there's any foul play involved."

Investigators say TJ was last seen at Rookies sports bar and grill on Sawdust Road. He'd been at several bars in the area that night.

According to detectives he last spoke to his father around 12:30am. According to the elder Murray, TJ was supposed to be home earlier and called to discuss staying later. Thomas says the truck TJ had been driving was found the next morning near On the Rox, a sports bar across the street. His phone was located in a ditch nearby.

Murray said, "Hopefully someone knows something."

Investigators say surveillance video shows TJ in at least one of the bars that night. But cameras didn't catch whatever happened after he left.

Murray added, "God willing, we get our son back."

It's been eight days since TJ vanished, and Murray says he would give anything for the chance to talk to his son just one more time.

On Saturday, there will be a Bring TJ Home vigil at the Oak Ridge High School baseball fields.

If you know anything about Murray's disappearance, you are urged to call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact Detective Keith Funderburk at 936-760-5876 or dispatch 936-760-5800.
