A group of students had a scare on their way to school this morning, as their bus was involved in a wreck.

The bus was southbound on the Southwest Freeway just past Chimney Rock when the accident happened at about 9am. A car behind the bus reportedly rear-ended the bus at a low speed.

A spokesperson for the Houston Independent School District says 10 students plus the driver were on board the bus.

EMS crews were called to the scene. According to HISD, five students have been taken to Memorial SW Hospital to be checked out.

The students were on their way to a CEP high school, an alternative school, at the time of the wreck. A second bus was brought to the scene to pick up the remaining students and transport them to class.
