Alejandro Galvan III, 29, is charged with injury to a child. The alleged incident happened on September 7 at a south side residence. According to court documents, Galvan hit his 11-year-old daughter with a belt on the stomach, legs and buttocks, and punched her in the arm with his fist leaving bruises on her body. The girl said she was not transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Court documents state the girl told investigators that Galvan gave her a gun that she thought was loaded and a knife and told her to use it if she really wanted to commit suicide.
Investigators say Galvan admitted to causing the bruises on the girl and giving her an unloaded gun and knife to kill herself.
Houston police say the girl's injuries are beyond what is necessary for appropriate corporal punishment.
The girl has been relocated to her biological mother by Child Protective Services, court documents show.
Bond has been set at $5,000.
