According to investigators, the shooting happened around 7pm Friday in the 1300 block of W. Pierce at Hazel in the Montrose area.
Police said a man was sitting in his car when another man walked up and began assaulting him. The victim fired once at his attacker, hitting him in the chest and killing him.
The shooter is not in custody. Investigators believe the shooting was in self-defense.
