Family's dogs, horse killed in violent attacks

HOUSTON

The Houston police sergeant investigating this case called it disturbing, and one of the worst cases of this kind that she's ever seen.

A northeast Houston family has had two dogs and a horse killed on their property on Charles Road, near the Hardy Toll Road, over the past week and a half.

It started when they found one of their dogs shot to death on Monday, October 3, and then a few days later, another family dog was fatally poisoned. But the final straw came for them when the mother found her youngest daughter's mare, Angel, with her throat slit, last Saturday.

Police say these crimes were violent, and they don't know if they're looking for one suspect or several.

"It's just very disturbing, there was just a large amount of blood," said HPD Sgt. Virginia Brasher. "They let the horse bleed out. It looks like possibly the person, when the horse was bleeding, was smudging blood up on the walls."

The animals' owner, Lucy Garcia, told Eyewitness News that it was terrifying to discover the murdered horse. Police say it was apparent that the animal had suffered.

A neighbor nearby heard something and tried to get the family's attention, but couldn't wake them in the middle of the night.

The family doesn't know of anyone with a grudge against them, and they're now living in fear. There are no significant leads at this time and police are looking for more information and any possible witnesses. You can call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS if you have any information that may help in this case.
