Man dead, two people injured in Gulf Freeway wreck

HOUSTON

Police say a witness stated the male victim, driving a red GMC pickup truck, was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound in the 7000 block of the Gulf Freeway about 12:30am Thursday when he lost control and struck the inside concrete wall. The truck spun around and came to a stop in the middle of the freeway.

The witness stopped to assist the victim and both were standing on the freeway when the truck was struck by a black Toyota Avalon, knocking the truck into both the victim and the witness.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The driver of the Toyota and the witness were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Neither the witness nor the Toyota driver appeared to be impaired.
