Houston police spokesman John Cannon says the eight were charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass and taken to jail Wednesday afternoon. Cannon says the protesters refused officers' orders to move away from entrances they blocked during a sit-in at the Mickey Leland Federal Building.
An estimated 200 people were involved in the protest dubbed Occupy Houston.
Cannon says the people arrested were taken into custody without incident.
They face a court appearance for booking and setting of bail.
