Judge considers countersuit against Mattel

SANTA ANA, CA

A federal judge will consider today whether to toss out the latest lawsuit in the spat between Mattel, which makes Barbie, and MGA, which makes Bratz.

MGA filed the antitrust lawsuit against Mattel after a jury awarded it $85 million and found Mattel stole MGA's trade secrets.

A judge later added damages and attorney fees, bringing the total to nearly $310 million.

Now MGA is using the recent verdict as ammunition in a lawsuit that claims Mattel is trying to kill the smaller company by litigating it to death.

Mattel, which originally sued MGA over the Bratz copyright, is appealing the multi-million dollar verdict.
