Police say Hawkins left his friend's apartment at the Durham at City View Apartment Complex at 501 Greens Road about 11:40pm on June 14 to meet another friend. Shortly after exiting the apartment, Hawkins was shot and then chased to the 100 bock of Green Chase Drive, where he was found. Hawkins suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back and died at the scene.
According to police, witnesses reported seeing a white or tan colored, four-door, older model Buick or Cadillac fleeing the location westbound on Greens Road.
Police say further investigation identified Christopher Jackson as the shooter. He was arrested on October 7 without incident.
Investigators also say they received additional information indicating Jackson may have been involved in several robberies in the FM 1960 and Highway 249 area.
