Teen mom charged with injury to child in daughter's death

HOUSTON

Emma Cardona, 19, is charged with injury to a child. According to court documents, Cardona told police that one of her four children had diarrhea and was vomiting all day on October 4. Cardona says she was with her two-year-old daughter, who she says was born with a condition called short-bowel syndrome, all day.

Court documents state that Cardona's husband spoke to her at around 10am and that Cardona told him the girl was lethargic and her eyes were rolling back in her head. When he arrived home from work at around 2pm, he says Cardona told him that the girl had a stomachache and headache. The husband told investigators that the girl's arms then went limp and her eyes rolled back in her head and she had a faint pulse. The parents called 911 about 30 minutes later.

The girl was pronounced dead at the hospital. Court documents show the girl's autopsy found a large contusion on her forehead, a hematoma on her brain and numerous bruises all over her body. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force head trauma.

Bond has been set at $50,000.
