Pedestrian critical after hit-and-run crash

SUGAR LAND, TX

Police say a car stalled on the Southwest Freeway feeder road near Sugarlakes around 4:15am.

Jose Prudente and his wife got out of the car and began pushing it from behind.

That's when police say another car hit them.

Prudente, 23, was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. Officials say he may have to have a leg and arm amputated.

His wife received minor injuries.

According to police, 23-year-old Hammy Huen was driving the car that hit the couple. His car skidded about 100 yards down the road and came to a stop.

Huen fled on foot, but was later apprehended. He has been charged with intoxication assault and failure to stop and render aid.
