Man accused of using forklift to steal ATMs

HOUSTON

According to law enforcement, Wilson Orphey stole a U-haul truck, then used a forklift to take ATMs from two Bank of America locations. But when Orphey tried to drive off, deputies say the weight of the machines and the forklift caused the truck to crash into a ditch. By then a witness had called authorities.

Police arrested Orphey after a quick foot chase.

"This is the first time of anything of this nature that I've heard of, using a forklift like that," said Lt. Mike Combest with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office. "It's quite creative. But I guess he didn't figure on somebody spotting him."

Deputies say the ATMs Oorphey had taken contained more than $300,000.
