A Federal Road Safety Corps official said that a tanker truck collided with a 16-seat minibus Monday morning along the Damaturu-Potiskum road in Yobe state. Hassan Safana said five people were seriously injured.
Musa Abdurrahman, the only survivor to have escaped relatively unhurt, said the tanker driver swerved to the opposite lane in a bid to overtake the minibus, and then rammed into the minibus when he found that there were two oncoming vehicles.
Authorities say a truck accident Thursday in neighboring Gombe state killed 19 people.
Accidents are common on Nigeria's poorly maintained roads.
