Prison for San Antonio mom who allowed child abuse

SAN ANTONIO, TX

Bexar County prosecutors say April Martinez knew her daughter Marie Villanueva was being abused and beaten but did nothing to stop it.

The San Antonio Express-News reports Martinez cried loudly in court Monday as she told a judge she's wasn't being allowed to visit her daughter. Martinez, who took a plea deal, was charged with injury to a child by omission and could have received up to 20 years in prison.

She had testified earlier against her roommates and babysitters. Twenty-two-year-old Lyzette Vasquez got 20 years and her husband, Hermes, received a 35-year sentence.
