Man accused of nearly running over Harris Co. deputy

CROSBY, TX

Justin Drake Miller, 19, is charged with aggravated assault stemming from the incident on September 5. According to court documents, the deputy was flagged down about a disturbance involving underage drinking in the 16800 block of South Diamondhead in northeast Harris County.

The uniformed deputy reportedly knew Miller from previous incidents, and confirmed his identify through Miller's ID.

Investigators say as the deputy turned his attention to others associated with the disturbance, Miller fled on foot into a wooded area. He later came back to the scene and got into his own vehicle in an attempt to flee.

Miller's vehicle was reportedly blocked in, and that's when the deputy approached Miller's vehicle and stood behind it.

The deputy reported that he made eye contact with Miller in the rear view mirror, yet Miller still put his vehicle in reverse. The deputy pulled out his weapon and commanded Miller to put the car in park, but Miller reportedly disregarded the command and continued in reverse, forcing the deputy to dive out of the way.

Miller hit a tree and fled on then foot and remains on the loose.

Bail in the case has been set at $30,000.
