Roof leak soaks files in Central Texas courthouse

A downpour from a thunderstorm exposed a leak in a Central Texas courthouse roof and soaked hundreds of boxes of court and government files.

The four-story Brazos County Courthouse in Bryan has been under renovation for more than a year. The Eagle of Bryan-College Station reports water from the leak early Monday flowed from the fourth floor to the first floor, where the county attorney's office appeared to be the worst affected.

District Attorney Bill Turner's staff spent much of the day going through its files on the fourth floor to see what files were salvageable. Prosecutor Danny Smith says some of his damaged files were notes from capital murder cases.
