According to police, an officer was questioning a suspicious person in the 9700 block of Braeburn Glen around 1:30am. The officer realized the man had a weapon and took him into custody.
Just then, a second suspect rammed their vehicle into the officer's patrol unit, officials said.
Police said the officer jumped out of the way and the suspect exited the vehicle and charged at the officer.
After telling the suspect repeatedly to stop, the officer fired at the suspect.
Officials said the suspect was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition. The officer was unharmed.
This case remains under investigation.
