Suspect critical after crashing car in SW Houston

HOUSTON

The wreck happened around 3:50am Tuesday on Belle Park at Moonmist near Bellaire.

According to the Houston Police Department, the man driving the car was a shooting suspect.

Officials said he had gone by a couple locations Monday night and fired several rounds for unknown reasons. No one was hit, and HPD is not even sure he was aiming at anyone.

Officers received a tip call with the man's identity, so they went to his home. As soon as the suspect saw police, officials said he took off in his car.

Police weren't sure which direction he went. They found him after a resident called 9-1-1 to report a crash in a yard.

The man had sped north on Belle Park, and then he lost control of the car and he slammed into a brick mailbox.

His car flipped several times and landed upside-down in a yard.

A 14-year-old girl was a passenger in the car. She crawled out and was taken via ambulance to an area hospital.

The suspect was trapped and had to be extracted from the car. He was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. His name has not been released.

Officers found a gun inside the car. It's not yet clear how the teen and suspect knew each other.
