Fire destroys vacant building in Midtown

At least 85 firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire overnight at a building southwest of downtown Houston.

It happened around 11pm Friday on Main St. near Cleburne in Midtown.

Firefighters arrived to find the building fully engulfed in flames.

They had to go into defensive mode and a second alarm was pulled shortly after crews arrived at the scene.

Firefighters say they needed four ladder trucks to put out the fire from above.

The building was abandoned and no one was injured, officials said, but the structure was a total loss and is expected to be torn down.

Arson is investigating the cause of the blaze.
