Airport police say one of their officers has shot and wounded an assailant who threatened him with a knife at the airstrip in the Dutch town of Eindhoven. Spokesman Rene Claessen says the suspect has been taken to a hospital, but it is not known how serious his injuries are.

Claessen says has no information on the would-be assailant or what led to the threat against the policeman.

The incident happened Friday outside the terminal building at Eindhoven, a regional airport.
