ACLU plans alternative event to Perry's prayer rally

HOUSTON

The ACLU calls it a "Family, Faith and Freedom" celebration to promote "inclusivity and diversity." The ACLU has been critical of Gov. Perry, saying his promotion of the prayer rally is a violation of the separation of church and state. Gov. Perry's spokesperson says no taxpayer dollars are being used to put on the rally.

The governor's event, "The Response: A Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis," is being held August 6 at Reliant Stadium. The ACLU event will be held August 5. A time and place is still being worked out.
