The San Angelo Standard-Times reports Judge Barbara Walther on Wednesday refused to delay the case any longer, declining to let an attorney withdraw after being fired this month by Jeffs.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott's office is handling the case against Jeffs, who's had no fewer than seven attorneys as "counsels of record." Prosecutors have accused Jeffs of changing lawyers to delay his trial on two counts of sexual assault of a child.
The charges stem from a 2008 raid on the Yearning for Zion ranch near Eldorado, amid suspicions of girls forced into polygamist marriages.
