West Texas cop wounded, suspect killed in shooting

SNYDER, TX State Trooper Phillip "Sparky" Dean told The Associated Press on Tuesday that a Snyder police officer was wounded and rushed to a Lubbock hospital after the incident that left the suspect dead. He said no other details were immediately available.

Lubbock television station KCBD reports that the officer had responded to a call of shots fired just after midnight, and after arriving he fired back to kill the suspect. It was not immediately clear if other officers were there during the shooting.

The station reports that the officer remained in surgery early Tuesday morning.

KJTV in Lubbock reports that the officer was listed in critical condition.
