Likely candidate says Mexico ready for woman president

MEXICO CITY, Mexico Josefina Vazquez Mota says Mexicans know that women are hard workers and make tough decisions.

Vazquez told reporters on Monday that women have won many political campaigns for men in Mexico and that "the moment has come for us to win campaigns for ourselves."

The 50-year-old Vazquez said she is helped by women who have led other Latin American countries, citing Chile, Brazil, Costa Rica and Argentina.

Vazquez is a a member of President Felipe Calderon's National Action Party. At least two other women have run from small parties.
