Chesser identified the suspect Friday as Everett Conant, in his mid-30s. Chesser says Conant surrendered after a short standoff.
He says Conant's wife was shot in the ankle and shoulder but survived.
Chesser didn't identify her, but a hospital spokesman says a woman named Suzette Conant was taken to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and was listed in good condition Friday.
Chesser says he doesn't know if the three boys were Everett Conant's biological children.
The Platte County Sheriff's Department says Everett Conant is in the county jail, but it has no record of whether he has an attorney.
