Suspected drunk driver in critical condition

CONROE, TX According to investigators, a man was driving south on F.M. 1314 when he went off the road to the left and hit the mailboxes, then drove through a ditch and the sign for a church.

Officials said he then crossed another road, hit a fence, and then struck a utility pole.

A fence post became lodged in his chest and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

A passenger in his car suffered only minor injuries, officials said.

The accident knocked out power to several homes. State troopers say alcohol was a factor in the crash.
