Police: Man posing as mechanic swindling seniors
HOUSTON
The suspect approached an 85-year-old during the afternoon of May 6 and told her something was wrong with her front left tire, according to Bellaire police. The man claimed to be a mechanic and told the woman he'd fix her tire for $424. The elderly woman agreed to pay the suspect and the two drove together to a bank, where she withdrew the cash from her account.
The two then drove to another location where the man said a wrecker would meet them. But then the suspect said he was going to get some gas for another car and left. He never returned.
The suspect is about 5-foot-7 and weighs around 165 pounds. He has brown eyes.
Anyone with information regarding his identity is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477 (TIPS).
