Cyclist, 86, dies in crash at National Senior Games

LIMA, OH Police in the town of Fulshear near Houston say the crash came during a 10-kilometer time trial. Paramedics took Elton Hammond Jr. of Lima, Ohio, to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

Friends in Ohio say Hammond died doing what he loved. He already had won a gold medal and two silver medals during the games.

His son says Hammond began cycling more than 40 years ago but didn't start racing until he was in his 70s.

He had traveled on his bike through Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
