Documents from Ortiz to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX Democrat Solomon Ortiz was recognized Thursday as he offered thousands of items marking his years representing South Texas.

Thomas Kreneck, who's associate director for the school's special collections and archives, told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that the Ortiz documents range from letters from items on Navy operations to everyday comments from constituents.

Ortiz in 1982 was elected as the first congressman from District 27 when the seat was created. The Robstown native was beaten in November by Republican Blake Farenthold.
