Two arrested for stealing cell phones at church

MONROE, LA Authorities say 28-year-old Christopher Nobels and 27-year-old Verdell Wyatt are accused of taking cell phones from other people in Faith Tabernacle church on Sunday.

Police spokeswoman Capt. Evelyn Robinson says parishioners were called up to the altar and left their property -- including cell phones -- in their pews. She says when they returned to their seats the phones were missing and so were the men.

Nobels and Wyatt were booked into Ouachita Correctional Center on one count of illegal possession of stolen things. Wyatt was also charged with resisting an officer. Nobels has since been released, while Wyatt remained in jail on $5,500 bond.
