Crews rescue 1,300-pound bull from Brazos River

HOUSTON

The bull had gone into the river and then got stuck up in the muddy waters while trying to return to the bank, according to a Houston SPCA statement.

The animal rescue team from Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office was called out to the scene. They then sought the help of a nearby fire department and the Houston SPCA.

Workers for the bull's owner also were on hand to help.

Authorities say it took six hours to pull the bull back to the banks because they had to tug the animal more than 300 feet through thick underbrush on an approximate 60-degree incline slope.

By Monday, the bull was returned to his herd and was doing well.
