The Houston Police Department DWI task force is teaming up with several other law enforcement agencies in the area to crack down on drunken drivers this summer. We were there as officers arrested one man for driving while intoxicated in southwest Houston.

The man faces charges of unauthorized use of a concealed weapon in addition to DWI.

Authorities found the man in his car asleep at a red light on Buffalo Speedway with a handgun.

Investigators said the man has a concealed handgun license, but he was in violation of the permit because he was intoxicated and the gun was visible to officers.

Task force members tell us the partnership will keep drivers safe.

"For us, it's the same DWI enforcement that we do on a nightly basis. We just have a lot more help with this initiative going on," task force member Ofc. Don Egdorf said.

The DWI task force will continue their partnership with other agencies through the July 4 holiday.
