Convicted killer sentenced to death

HOUSTON Albert Turner was convicted last week of killing his wife, Keitha Turner, and his mother-in-law, Betty Jo Frank, in front of their four children.

Prosecutors said Turner carried out the murders out of rage because his wife planned to leave him for being abusive to her. They describe Turner as a cold-hearted murderer who has no regard for human life. They went on to say as a former prison guard, Turner wouldn't be scared of life in prison. Instead, he'd make friends there and continue to manipulate people.

Turner's defense attorneys said death is the easy way out in this case. They argued he needs to spend life behind bars and provide answers to his children s as they get older.

Turner faced up to 99 years or life in prison, but the jury decided he should die for his crimes.
